Vertigo is a sensation that you or your surroundings are spinning, tilting, or moving when they are not. It is a type of dizziness, but not all dizziness is vertigo.

Common causes

Vertigo can be related to inner ear conditions, vestibular migraine, inflammation, head injury, certain medicines, or less commonly problems in the brain.

What it may feel like

Vertigo can come with nausea, vomiting, balance trouble, ringing in the ear, hearing changes, or sensitivity to movement.

Vertigo with weakness, trouble speaking, severe headache, fainting, chest pain, or new neurological symptoms should be treated as urgent.
