A tension headache is a common type of headache that often feels like pressure, tightness, or a band around the head. It may involve the scalp, neck, or shoulders.
How it feels
The pain is often mild to moderate and on both sides of the head. It usually does not cause the same nausea, vomiting, or strong light sensitivity that migraine can cause.
Common triggers
Stress, poor sleep, eye strain, dehydration, posture, muscle tension, and long screen sessions can contribute to tension headaches.
New, severe, sudden, or unusual headaches should be checked, especially if they come with weakness, confusion, fever, stiff neck, or vision changes.
