Psoriasis is an immune-related skin disease that speeds up skin cell turnover. This can create thick, scaly, inflamed patches.

Common features

Psoriasis can appear on elbows, knees, scalp, back, hands, feet, or nails. It may itch, burn, crack, or bleed.

Beyond the skin

Some people with psoriasis develop psoriatic arthritis, which causes joint pain, stiffness, or swelling. Psoriasis can also be linked with other health risks.

Psoriasis is not the same as eczema, though both can cause itchy skin and visible patches.
