Parkinson's disease is a progressive brain disorder that affects movement. It is linked with loss of dopamine-producing nerve cells in certain parts of the brain.

Movement symptoms

Common movement symptoms include tremor, slow movement, stiffness, smaller handwriting, balance problems, and changes in walking or facial expression.

Non-movement symptoms

Parkinson's can also affect sleep, mood, smell, constipation, blood pressure, thinking, and voice. Symptoms vary widely from person to person.

Parkinson's disease is different from dementia, though some people with Parkinson's can develop memory or thinking problems later.
