A heart attack happens when blood flow to part of the heart muscle is blocked. Without enough oxygen, that part of the heart can become damaged.
Common symptoms
Symptoms can include chest pressure, pain spreading to the arm, jaw, back, or shoulder, shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, lightheadedness, or unusual fatigue.
Not everyone feels it the same way
Some people have less obvious symptoms, especially women, older adults, and people with diabetes. Chest pain should be treated seriously.
A possible heart attack is an emergency. Fast medical care can save heart muscle and lives.
