IPv6 is the newer Internet Protocol that provides a much larger address space and modern networking features.
A larger addressing system
IPv6 expands the internet address space far beyond IPv4 and supports modern autoconfiguration. Its notation uses hexadecimal groups separated by colons.
Migration is gradual
Networks may run IPv4 and IPv6 together while applications learn to prefer a working path. Firewalls, DNS records, monitoring, and provider support all matter during the transition.
