A cloud region is a geographic area where a cloud provider operates infrastructure and offers services. Regions are commonly named after locations such as countries, states, or major cities.
Why regions matter
Region choice affects latency, data residency, service availability, disaster recovery, pricing, and compliance. A workload close to users usually responds faster than one far away.
Region and availability zone
A region usually contains multiple availability zones. Zones give teams a way to design for failure inside the same broader geographic area.
Choosing the right cloud region is both a technical and business decision.
