What is Polarity?

Polarity is when something has two opposite sides or ends, like a magnet. One side of a magnet is called the north pole, and the other is the south pole. These two ends either attract (pull together) or repel (push apart) other objects. Polarity happens because of the way tiny particles, called atoms, are arranged in certain things.

In electricity, polarity also matters. It tells us which direction the electric current is flowing. Batteries have a positive (+) end and a negative (-) end, and these ends need to be connected the right way for devices to work. If you’ve ever put a battery in backwards, it might not work because of the wrong polarity!

Polarity is important in many areas, like chemistry, magnets, and electronics. Understanding polarity helps us know how things interact, whether they’re attracting or repelling, and how energy flows in circuits.
