Electric current is the flow of electric charge through a circuit. It is measured in amperes, commonly called amps.
What makes current flow?
Current flows when there is voltage and a complete path through a load. The amount of current depends on the voltage, resistance, power source, and the components connected in the circuit.
Why current matters
Too little current may prevent a device from working. Too much current can overheat wires, damage parts, or blow a fuse.
Current is the moving part of electricity: it is charge actually flowing through the circuit.
