What is a Gas?

Have you ever wondered what a gas is? A gas is one of the three main states of matter, along with solids and liquids. Unlike solids, which have a fixed shape, and liquids, which take the shape of their container, gases spread out to fill any space they’re in.

Think about the air around you—it’s made up of different gases, like oxygen and nitrogen. Gases are made of tiny particles that are far apart and move around quickly. This is why gases can expand and fill up a whole room, even if there’s just a little bit of it.

Gases are all around us, and we use them in many ways. For example, the gas in balloons makes them float, and the gas in your stove helps cook food. Gases might be invisible, but they’re super important in our everyday lives!
