What is Single Sign-On?

Single Sign-On, often called SSO, is a way to log into many websites or apps using just one set of login details, like your email and password. Imagine if you had to carry around a different key for every door in your house—one for the front door, one for your bedroom, one for the bathroom, and so on. That would be confusing, right? SSO is like having one magical key that opens all the doors in your house. Once you use that key, you can easily go from room to room without having to fumble for the right key each time.

So, how does SSO work? When you log in to a website or app with SSO, the system checks who you are by using your username and password. If it recognizes you, it gives you permission to access everything else connected to that system without asking for your password again. It’s like when you go to a theme park and get a wristband at the entrance. Once you have that wristband, you can go on any ride without showing your ticket again. SSO makes it easier for you because you don’t have to remember a bunch of different passwords.

Why is SSO important? It’s not just about making things easier; it also helps keep your accounts safe. With SSO, you only have to protect one password, and you can make it really strong. This reduces the chances of forgetting passwords or getting locked out of your accounts. Plus, it’s much faster to log in, so you can spend more time doing the things you enjoy rather than worrying about passwords.
